The Tenth Generation of Gazelles Born in Samukhi Plain!

The Samukhi Plain welcomed the tenth generation of gazelles. From July onwards, a significant number of newborn calves can be spotted as they lie and hide in the grass during their first few weeks. The abundance of newborns is a clear indicator of successful reproduction among the gazelles.

The Gazelle restoration program in Georgia has been running successfully since 2013. Every year, the population has shown steady growth, confirming the program's effectiveness. According to preliminary data, with the birth of this tenth generation, the population in the Samukh Plain has now exceeded 400 individuals.

Goitered Gazelles (Gazella subgutturosa) were declared extinct in the 1960s in Georgia. The reintroduction program is implemented by WWF in close cooperation with the governments of Azerbaijan and Georgia, with the financial support provided by WWF Deutschland and WWF Austria.
